About HP

OUR STORY

HP was founded in 2016 as a privately funded community project with the desire to showcase twelve special collections of art and historical artefacts compiled by our founders over a 20 year period. HP was also created to actively promote appreciation and support for the many art, heritage and cultural offerings the region has to offer. Based in it's hometown of Reading, HP works with local schools, colleges and universities. We also organise specially curated public exhibitions across Berkshire.

History Portal collects, studies, conserves and presents significant works of human artistry spanning a period of 5,000 years in order to connect people to creativity, knowledge, and ideas. HP work's to promote artistic merit across Berkshire and encourage younger generations to build an appreciation of the artistic contributions of humanity and it's rich historical record.

HP actively promotes education and interest in history, art and culture from across the world both locally and on a National level. So whilst we may not be able to bring an Aztec step pyramid to our audiences, we can exhibit historical items that are linked to such cultures.

History Portal work's to unite people of different culture's, religions, backgrounds, genders and sexual orientations, by using historical artefacts to showcase humanities shared values, achievements and desire to learn.

Our Mission

Everything Starts With An Idea.....

Our goal is to present our collections to the public, local schools and centres for education to enable them to discover, interpret, and disseminate—through historical artefacts and education—knowledge about human cultures, the similarities we share and what binds us together.

Our Founders

Childhood Dream....

History Portal was given life in 2016 and is entirely funded by it's founders, Lewis Geater and Mark Antony Lawrence as a community enrichment project dedicated to promoting the Artistic, Cultural and Social achievements of humanity to as wide an audience as possible across Berkshire.

Its main mission is to make the 3,000 + items of Artistic and Historical importance within their collections as accessible to the public as possible via free specially curated exhibitions, visits to local schools, care homes and higher education establishments.

Both of our founders actively volunteer as Ambassadors, Trustees and  Befrienders for a number of charities locally. Ranging from support for the elderly to promoting diversity within their hometown.

What started out as a 7-year-old child's fascination with collecting stamps has grown into twelve very special collections that cover a diverse mix of Western Art and Culture to items of National and International importance.

All of this has been achieved in a combined collecting obsession that has spanned 20 years, completely funded by two normal, working class individuals from Reading with a passion for enhancing their home town's cultural offering.
